Personal Life of Maksim Chmerkovskiy
'Maks' was born in the Ukraine in early 1980, and took his first dancing lessons there. A highly-gifted young dancer, as he got older and his family immigrated to the United States, he became much more interested in several sports than in dancing. A ski accident was the cause of multiple injuries, and though he was warned that he might not ever gain the same physical prowess, through extensive therapy and work he achieved an impressive, complete recovery.
Dancing has once again become the athletic focus of Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He owns several studios in the New York City area, appears often on Dancing With the Stars, and works as a choreographer and instructor as well. He became engaged to fellow dancer Karina Smirnoff in 2008.
Is Maksim Chmerkovskiy Married?
After eight months of engagement, and an even shorter period of dating prior to the engagement, Maksim and Karina called off their engagement in September, 2009. Karina, also a professional dancer, appears regularly on Dancing With the Stars.

Maks has appeared on several seasons of Dancing With the Stars, with his highest finishing place being a close second. Second place was earned with his partner 'Mel B', but several other partnerships have each yielded beautiful and stunning dancing as well.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be best well known for his ballroom dancing, but he is clearly a superior athlete as well. This pure athleticism can only add to his beautiful ballroom style. Of course, his good looks don't hurt either, but his dance prowess alone make him deserving of all the recent praise.
